Yes, there are tug nuts the other side of the Atlantic too, specifcally the magazine International Tug & Salvage. The only professional international magazine dedicated to the topic, they publish five times per year IN FULL COLOUR and it is sent free of charge (by surface mail) to anybody currently working in the industry (termed a qualifying reader). Most clever folks fax or email their credit card number as they only charge stlg15 Sterling (about $24) to send it airmail for a year.
The June issue contains descriptions with colour photos of three tugs built in Singapore for Gulf of Mexico, a Japanese built tug for Scotland, Chinese tugs for all over and others from the US and Italy. The news section is also full of tug stories from around the world. They also talk about engines and tug equipment.
Each year they also produce the TugWorld Review and the latest issue is just out. This features the important tugs built over the previous 12 months and this it runs to 112 colour pages with descriptions, including GA drawings, of over 40 tug classes. This high quality book costs stlg30 inc p&p surface -add stlg4.50 for airmail. Credit card orders accepted.
They are not a johnny-come-lately. Theur publishing house called Reed's is a long established family company specialising in this topic and our nautical bookshop is world famous. They publish all the leading salvage textbooks and have been running the International Tug and Salvage Convention & Exhibition for nearly 30 years. The next one is in Cape Town, South Africa, this November.
