1898-1998
San Francisco Model Yacht Club
Centennial
We've been working on it for 100 years. The Club is planning
to have a lot of activities all year long culminating with the
Memorial Day weekend "bash". We have people coming from
all over the country to celebrate 100 years of model boating.
The Golden Gate Scale Concours and Model Tugboat Event will
be held (probably in June) as usual.
A separate Wooden Boat event is likely also.
The Memorial Day weekend will celebrate all the phases of our
Club.
- The Marblehead boats will be on parade.
- The various R/C Sailboats will have their time in the sun.
- Classic Gas boats are definitely coming out.
- The Tugs and barge contingent will be represented by our
members and the British Columbia group led by Ron Burchette.
- We hope to have a lot of hobbyist vendors represented during
the 3 days.
- A banquet is also in the planning.
We've produced a commemorative patch, (larger view below) which
is available from the Club for $5.55 [$5.00 + .55 postage] or
just $5 at the lake or meetings. A great many were sold at the
Wooden Boats on Parade event in October, 1996. Send a snail mail
[and check] to: Treasurer, SFMYC; 450 Taraval St. Suite 235, San
Francisco, CA 94116. This is the work of Senior Member Tom Lamantea,
artist in residence.
